Founded in 2007 by photographer James Balog, the Extreme Ice Survey (EIS) is an innovative, long-term project to reveal the impact the climate change on the Earth’s polar and alpine landscapes. EIS imagery preserves a visual legacy of the changing landscape.

Salgado recounts his epic eight-year journey across the globe to document the last pristine areas of the planet. The resulting photographs, collected in the project Genesis, show us what will be lost if we do not mobilize now to preserve the environment.

What Is Climate Science? with Peter deMenocal

Against the backdrop of Salgado’s photographs, Peter deMenocal, a climate scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory specializing in paleoceanography and marine geology, delivers a primer on the work of climate scientists and how their findings illuminate our understanding of climate change.
