Geography, Assistant Professor- Fall 2019 Minnesota State Universality at Mankato

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will work in the undergraduate and master’s programs in Geography. Teaching areas include Population, Migration, Introductory Geography, World Regional, and Philosophy of Geography. Additional responsibilities include research, continuing professional preparation, contributions to student growth, and service to the university and community.
  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twelve (12) credits per semester of instruction.
  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.
  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university’s additional locations, as assigned.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (see Article 22 and Appendix G of theĀ IFO Master Agreement).

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Geography, ABD considered. (If ABD, degree must be conferred on an official transcript and received in Human Resources by August 18, 2019.)
  • Professional preparation to teach Population, Migration, and Human or Cultural Geography.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated potential for effectiveness in teaching, scholarly research, continuing professional preparation, contributions to student growth, and service to the university and community.
  • University-level teaching experience.
  • Ability to teach applied GIS courses in areas of specialization and competence.
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments/disciplines in teaching and scholarly activities.
  • Potential for collaboration with public, private and/or non-profit organizations

Additional Information

The Department of Geography is home to 125 Geography and 35 Earth Science undergraduate majors, 30 master’s students and nine faculty members. We host two state-of-the-science computer labs for GIScience. The department offers the B.A., B.S. and M.S. degrees in Geography, the B.A. and B.S. degrees in Earth Science, and certificates in Geomorphology and Earth Surface Processes and in Geographic Information Science.
