Seeking out individuals to partner on teach-in series #TeachIn #CERRU @QC_News

In response to the election cycle, which feels like it’s ushering in a wave of increased intolerance and hate, we are sponsoring a Teach-In Series. CERRU vehemently feels during this time in history it’s important for all of us to work together in all of our capacities to stop the spread of intolerance and hate. Reminiscent of the 1960s Teach In Series, we would like to offer this semester long programming to provide students with accessible stories and histories of ordinary courageous organizing in the face of racism, sexism, imperialism, ableism, nationalism and so forth. It would serve as a platform to educate the Queens College community about the rich tradition of ordinary people working together to push political and governmental entities for the promotion of humanistic ideals and the opposition to hate.
We are offering many different Teach-In topics consistent with groups that the president elect has spoken out against. Presently we have three Queens College faculty signed on to offer a lecture/workshop on Women Rights in the US, the LGBT Movement, and the Black Panther party.
We are looking for faculty or staff who have expertise in specific social movements to provide a combination of a lecture on campus along with know your rights and organizing elements.
Below are the working topics and dates (we are reserving a space from 4-7pm for this on the following dates but you are not required to be present for all 3 hours) for the lecture series:
February 8th – Allyship (Yael – I welcome others to participate)
February 22nd-History of Black Panther Party (Diedre Cooperowens)
March 8th– History of Immigration Rights Movement
March 22nd– History of Chicano and Young Lords or Student movements?
March 29th– History of Women’s Rights Movement (Amy Herzog)
