Assistant Professor in Human Geography (Race, Gender, Ethnicity, Sexuality)

Department of Geography, Rutgers University

The Department of Geography at Rutgers University invites applicants for a Tenure Track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Human Geography. We seek a candidate whose teaching and research interests contribute to innovative perspectives on gender, sexuality, race, and/or ethnicity. Topical sub-areas might include, for example, racial discrimination; spaces of exclusion; black, feminist, or queer geographies; migration and mobility; liberation politics; solidarity and social movements; spaces of difference; social or environmental justice; legal geographies; and boundaries/borders. The candidate will teach courses in the field of human geography at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We will give preference to candidates who engage research epistemologies and scholarly/critical traditions not well-represented in the discipline, and whose interests complement the teaching and research profile of the department’s faculty. Interest in innovative pedagogies, civic engagement and activism, or new geographical research methods, and/or a regional specialization would be an added benefit. We will also give preference to candidates who can help diversify our faculty or draw
a more diverse student body to the discipline through the substance of their research and teaching.

The anticipated start date for this position is September 1, 2018.
