ASSISTANT PROFESSORSHIP IN URBAN SOCIAL CHANGE

The Department of Geography at Simon Fraser University, in Burnaby, British Columbia, invites applications for a tenure-track position in urban social change. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, and will begin 1 September 2019.

The ideal candidate will be a geographer whose work addresses the dynamics of urban social change across the following axes of social difference: ability, age, class, ethnicity, gender, health, Indigeneity, immigration status, race and/or sexuality. They will have expertise in the critical analysis of urban life, including but not limited to one or more of the following: decolonization; governance and planning; housing, home and belonging; marginalization and stigmatization; social movements; social reproduction; and urban crises and transformations. They will build an externally-funded research program that complements and contributes to our research strengths in The City and strengthens SFUs contributions to public discourse and policy. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence, or the clear promise of excellence, in research and teaching, and will pursue collaboration across campus and beyond. They will demonstrate the capacity to develop an effective graduate training program, teach graduate and undergraduate courses in urban and social geography and other courses in the Human Geography program. We seek candidates who will contribute positively and constructively to the department work environment and will participate in community building and collegial governance.
