Anna Paltseva wins #BestPoster at #SUITMA8 Conference

The SUITMA Conference is a biennial gathering of urban soil scientists from all over the world. PhD student, Anna Paltseva won the Best Poster Award at the SUITMA 8 International Conference held in Mexico City two weeks ago. Deep intrusions, lateral magma transport and related uplift at ocean island volcanoes Abstract Oceanic intraplate volcanoes grow by accumulation of erupted material as well as by coeval or discrete magmatic intrusions. Dykes and other intrusive bodies within volcanic edifices are comparatively well studied, but intrusive processes deep beneath the volcanoes remain elusive. Although there is geological evidence for deep magmatic intrusions contributing to volcano growth through uplift, this has rarely been demonstrated by real-time monitoring. Here we use geophysical and petrological data from El Hierro, Canary Islands, to show that intrusions from the mantle and subhorizontal transport of magma within …

  Our very own Dr. Roger Hart was featured on NPR Podcast, Invisibilia, a podcast that explores the intangible forces that shape human behavior – things like ideas, beliefs, assumptions and emotions.  The particular episode that featured Roger, entitled Fearless, aired on January 16, 2015.   In the podcast Roger discusses his research conducted in Vermont which investigates everyday lives of children and children’s environments. GC Digital Fellows – Open Office Hours for Digital Projects

Beginning next week, on September 23, the GC Digital Fellows will be holding office hours every Wednesday from 2-3pm in the Digital Scholarship Lab, Room 7414. You can find a full schedule of our office hours and staffing schedule on the GC Digital Fellows website. Our office hours are open to all GC students, faculty, and staff, however students are our priority since we also provide individual faculty consulting in conjunction with the New Media Lab.
