Summary of Position:
The Thompson School of Applied Science / Department of Natural Resources and the Environment is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE, academic year – nine-month) Lecturer position in the Forest Technology Associate of Applied Science program, beginning August 2019. The position will be for a three-year, renewable term. Subject to department needs, the incumbent will be responsible for teaching a course load of six units (typically 24 semester credit hours) in the broad field of forestry. This position requires a combination of field experience and formal education. Candidates will have interests in forest mensuration, geographic information systems (GIS), arboriculture, silviculture, forest management, forest fire control and use, and forest surveying and mapping. Other workload requirements will include advising students in the Forest Technology program, serving on committees, and assisting with maintenance and coordination of Forest Technology facilities and equipment.

Renewal of the position after the initial three-year period may be possible at the discretion of the college. An appointment for a lecturer position includes the full benefits package of the University for non-tenure-track faculty. Lecturers at UNH are represented by the AAUP through a collective bargaining agreement.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates are required to hold a masters degree in forestry or a related subject. Candidates must have a strong interest in teaching in an associate degree program with a focus on applied hands-on learning and will show a demonstrated record of teaching excellence. The incumbent must have excellent communication skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
A bachelors degree (or higher degree) in Forestry from a program accredited by the Society of American Foresters (SAF) or the Canadian Forestry Accreditation Board (CFAB/BCAF) is highly preferred. A PhD in forestry or related subject is desired. Applied field experience in forestry is highly desired. Knowledge of northeastern US forest types, silviculture, and forest management is strongly desired. Other desired qualifications include applied experience with geographic information systems (GIS), knowledge of forest mensuration techniques, expertise and experience with forest fire management and control, and applied arboriculture experience.
