Tenure Eligible Positon at the rank of Assistant Professor in the School of World Studies at VCU

Job Description: The School of World Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a tenure eligible position at the rank of Assistant Professor to conduct research and teach courses on Environmental Justice from a humanities and/or humanistic social science perspective. The successful candidate will be able to teach upper level undergraduate courses on theories of globalization and lower level survey courses on globalization and international social justice in support of the International Studies program and the new Bachelor of Arts in Global and International Studies.

 

Required qualifications: PhD in Global Studies, International Studies, Cultural Studies, or relevant discipline in hand by August 16, 2019; a demonstrable potential for excellence in scholarship on issues of Environmental Justice.  Specific area of research focus open. A record of successful university teaching at the undergraduate level, ideally in a public urban university setting like that of Virginia Commonwealth University. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering the development of a diverse faculty, staff, and student educational and intellectual environment. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in the theoretical, historical, and empirical dimensions of environmental justice issues and their relationship to indigenous peoples and other marginalized populations confronting and resisting eco-social injustice, climate justice movements, and/or environmental humanities. Preference will also be given to candidates with interest in the philosophical, religious, literary, and/or filmic interpretations/mediations of environmental issues and their impact on public consciousness; and candidates with an interest in community engaged pedagogy.
